Editorial Policy: How AI and Humans Create RiskStance Content

Our standards for research, writing, fact-checking, independence and corrections, including exactly how we use artificial intelligence.

Our Editorial Policy

This policy explains how RiskStance decides what to publish, how our articles are researched and written, and what you can expect from us. Our site is owned and edited by Jis Johnson. Our guides are well researched and are produced with both artificial intelligence and human writers and editors. We believe readers have a right to know exactly how that works, so we set it out here in full.

Our Editorial Principles

Accuracy

Facts, figures, formulas and legal references must be checked before publication. If we are unsure, we say so or leave the claim out.

Clarity

We explain terms in plain language and write for readers who may be meeting a topic for the first time.

Usefulness

Each article should help the reader measure, decide or do something specific, rather than simply fill a page.

Independence

Commercial relationships never decide what we say. Paid or affiliate content is always disclosed.

How We Use Artificial Intelligence

We use AI tools as an assistant, not as an unsupervised author. Typical uses include gathering background information, comparing frameworks, suggesting outlines, drafting first versions, summarising long material and checking readability. AI tools can be fast and helpful, but they can also be wrong, outdated or overconfident, so we treat their output as a draft that must earn its place.

  • AI does not publish. No article goes live without a person reading, editing and approving it.
  • AI does not decide facts. Anything presented as fact must be supported by a reliable source or sound reasoning that a person has verified.
  • AI does not replace judgement. People decide the angle, the audience, the cautions and the recommendations.
  • We aim not to enter readers’ personal data into AI tools. Messages sent to us are handled by people, and we do not knowingly use reader emails to train AI models.

Disclosure. RiskStance content is created with a mix of AI assistance and human writing and editing. Where an article or image is largely AI-generated, we aim to say so clearly.

Human Oversight and Responsibility

A named person is accountable for everything on the site. Each article passes through the following stages before and after publication.

  1. Brief. A person chooses the topic, defines the reader’s problem and sets the market, such as UK, US, EU or Commonwealth.
  2. Research. AI and human research are combined, with priority given to official and primary sources.
  3. Writing and editing. Drafts are rewritten and restructured by a person, with examples, caveats and context added.
  4. Fact check. Numbers, definitions, laws and formulas are verified against reliable sources.
  5. Final review. We check tone, clarity, bias, formatting and the presence of appropriate disclaimers.
  6. Maintenance. Important pages are reviewed and refreshed when the facts change.

Sources and Fact-Checking

We prefer primary and authoritative sources, such as government and regulator websites, recognised standards bodies including ISO, central banks, statistical offices, peer-reviewed research and official company documents. We use secondary sources, such as reputable news outlets and industry bodies, to add context. We try not to rely on a single source for an important claim, and we avoid anonymous or unverifiable material.

Because regulation differs between countries, we state which market a guide applies to. Examples and calculations are illustrations unless we say otherwise, and your own results will depend on your circumstances.

Independence, Advertising and Affiliate Links

Our editorial decisions are separate from our commercial activity. We may display third-party advertising and banners, may include affiliate links, and may accept sponsored content. If we do, the following rules apply.

  • Advertising is clearly distinguishable from editorial content.
  • Sponsored and affiliate content is labelled in line with UK Advertising Standards Authority and CMA guidance, the US FTC endorsement guides and similar rules elsewhere.
  • Advertisers and affiliate partners cannot approve, edit or buy favourable coverage.
  • We aim to compare options fairly and do not recommend a product only because it pays us.

For details of how advertising technology uses cookies and data, please read our Privacy and Cookie Policy.

Conflicts of Interest

If a commercial relationship, ownership interest or personal connection could reasonably affect how a topic is presented, we disclose it. Where we cannot manage the conflict, we do not publish the piece.

Images, Copyright and Originality

We aim to publish original work and to respect intellectual property. We do not knowingly copy another publisher’s text, and we credit and link to sources where appropriate. Images are original, licensed or properly permitted, and we label AI-generated images where it matters to understanding. If you believe we have used your work without permission, please contact us and we will investigate promptly.

Content Standards for Financial and Risk Topics

Because our subject matter touches on money, insurance and security, we apply extra care. We do not promise returns, we avoid scare tactics, we explain the limits of any calculation, and we direct readers to qualified professionals when decisions are significant. Our content is educational and is not personal advice. See our Disclaimer for the full wording.

Updates and Corrections

Facts change, and so do we. When we find or are told about an error, we correct it quickly. For significant corrections, we aim to note what changed and when. We review high-traffic and time-sensitive pages regularly, particularly where they mention rates, thresholds, regulations or technology.

Report a Problem or Complaint

If you believe an article is inaccurate, misleading, out of date or inappropriately commercial, email hi@riskstance.com with the page address and your concern. We will review it, respond and correct the page where needed.

Editorial FAQs

Is RiskStance content written by AI?

It is created with both AI and humans. AI assists with research and drafting, and people write, edit, verify and approve the final articles.

Do advertisers influence what you write?

No. Advertisers, sponsors and affiliate partners have no control over our editorial decisions, and paid content is labelled.

How often do you update articles?

We update articles when the facts change or when we find errors, with extra attention to pages that involve rates, laws or fast-moving technology.
